BLDEA's SB Arts and KCP Science College was established in the year 1945. The 'Arts' division was named after its founder Poojya Shivayogi Sangan Basava Swamiji, and the 'Science' division was named after its donor Shri Kanal Channanagouda Patil.
The foundation stone of the college was laid by Bharat Ratna and Nobel Laureate Sir C. V. Raman. Eminent personalities who have visited the college include General Kariyappa, Dr V. K. Gokak, Dr D. C. Pavate and Bharat Ratna Prof. C.N.R. Rao.
The college offers three undegraduate courses: B.A., B.Sc. and B.C.A and Four P.G. Postgraduate courses namely M.A.(English), M.Sc.(Computer Science), M.Sc.(Chemistry) and M.Sc.(Physics). Also seven career-oriented programmes, 19 value-added courses and two certificate courses are offered by the college.
The college has excellent infrastructure and an engaging academic environment. There are ten smart classrooms with information and communication technology facilities, four labs, a seminar hall cum auditorium, a language lab, museums, an incubation centre, a media centre recording facility, and a lecturer capturing system. Thirteen well-equipped and up and running laboratories comprising the latest lab devices meet the practical training needs of the college.
