Introduction

  • The Red Cross is an international organization meant for humanitarian services founded by Jean Henry Dunant on May 08 1828 in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • The Red Cross is an international humanitarian service organization dedicated to the cause of suffering humanity both in times of war and peace since eight decades.
  • The Red Cross is an independent organization with considerable welfare activities to its credit.
  • It is the biggest relief organization in the world with 200 million members and thousands of employees.
  • There is no doubt that in the last 100 years millions of persons have been spared much needless miseries, degradation, and suffering in the war times.
  • Several people’s lives have been saved because of the existence of Red Cross.

IFRC and RCS

  • International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) And Red Crescent Societies (RCS) is the permanent liaison body of the national societies and acts as their spokesman and representative internationally.
  • The federation encourages the creation and development of national societies in countries all over the world.
  • Each country has Red Cross or Red Crescent society at national level to organize the activities within the country through its branches.

INDIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY

  • The Indian Red Cross Society was established in the year 1920 with its national headquarters in New Delhi.
  • Indian red Cross Society Karnataka state Branch was established in the year 1921 with its head quarters in Bengaluru.

YOUTH RED CROSS

The Indian Youth Red Cross (YRC) is a part of Indian Red Cross Society. It is the most important constituent of its mother organization Indian Red Cross Society.

AIMS OF YOUTH RED CROSS SOCIETY

It is organized for the purpose of inculcating in Indian Youth the ideal and practice of service especially in relation to:

  • Taking care of one’s own health and that of others.
  • Understanding and accepting of civic responsibilities.
  • Maintaining spirit of friendliness and helpfulness towards other youth in India and all over the world.
  • Dissemination of the Red Cross movement.
  • As per the circular of Rani Channama University, Belagavi, dated 31 Jan 2013 the college established Youth Red Cross (YRC) Wing in the year 2013-14
  • All the students of the college are the members of the YRC
  • The college has nominated Prof. (Smt)S.S.Biradar, HOD of Zoology Department, as programmer officer to look after the YRC Wing.
  • In the year 2013-14 for promotion of health and Hygiene, Health Check up Camp was organized for three days, i.e. from 14th to 16th March 2014
  • As per the circular of Rani Channama University, Belagavi, dated 31 Jan 2013 the college established Youth Red Cross (YRC) Wing in the year 2013-14
  • All the students of the college are the members of the YRC
  • The college has nominated Prof. (Smt)S.S.Biradar, HOD of Zoology Department, as programmer officer to look after the YRC Wing.
