Statistics

The department of statistics was established in 1962. It has continuously produced distinguished students who have occupied important and prestigious positions in various institutions. The department of Statistics offers B.Sc. with Statistics as one of the three main subjects of equal importance. The department also provides ‘Applied Statistics’ for B.A. students. Statistics as a core subject has two combinations in Science and 12 combinations in Arts faculty.

The department is committed to the advancement of knowledge in statistics through various teaching methods. The faculty members of the department are extending consultancy services to Engineering, Medical and Agricultural Sectors. The students have shown a consistent and commendable performance in the University.

Objectives

To train the students to acquire analytical, logical thinking and draw an inference using statistical tools.
To use advanced technology in Statistical analysis.
To plan to form an IT Club and to extend the knowledge in advanced technology.

Strategies

To conduct an Orientation program for new students.
To evaluate the students' progress from time to time.
To conduct the seminars /workshops.
To hold Annual Department Day and to review the activities of the academic year.
