Sociology

The Department of Sociology made its beginning in the year 1959. Prof. Laxman Rao, a great scholar and eminent sociologist laid the foundation of the department. Prof. C. V. Mulagund, Prof. Puranikmath and Prof. Kusur carried the bight tradition of the department. At present, Prof. G.G.Rudraxi is the head of the department and is ably supported by Dr. Jevoorshetty.

  • At present, Sociology is offered as one of the 03 subjects of equal importance to BA UG students.
  • Sociology as a core subject has 09  combinations.
  • The department offers UGC sponsored Career Oriented Programme (COP) in ‘Family  Welfare and Counselling’. There is a provision to study Certificate, Diploma and Advance Diploma.

Aim

“To enable the students to understand the Socio-Economic problems”.

Objectives

  • To understand life and its process of living.
  • To be a social being by adopting moral values.
  • To understand the family as a basic unit of social organization.
  • To study the culture and civilization of people.
  • To learn how Sociology helps us in solving the problems confronted by the present day Society.

Strategies

  • To visit prisons, remand homes, certified schools, orphanages & reformatory schools & institutions.
  • To develop Research temperament among the students by assigning   surveys/ projects.
