During the pre-independence era, many educational institutions were established by non-government organizations and philanthropists to bring about social transformation. Most of these institutions have continued to serve society by keeping pace with the changing times and upgrading their infrastructure and programme modules. BLDEA's SB Arts and KCP Science College is one such institution.
BLDEA's SB Arts and KCP Science College was established in the year 1945. The 'Arts' division was named after its founder Poojya Shivayogi Sangan Basava Swamiji, and the 'Science' division was named after its donor Shri Kanal Channanagouda Patil.
The foundation stone of the college was laid by Bharat Ratna and Nobel Laureate Sir C. V. Raman. Eminent personalities who have visited the college include General Kariyappa, Dr V. K. Gokak, Dr D. C. Pavate and Bharat Ratna Prof. C.N.R. Rao.
The college offers three undergraduate courses: BA, BSc and BCA, and four postgraduate courses, namely, MA English, MSc Computer Science, MSc Chemistry, and MSc Physics. Also, seven career-oriented programmes, 19 value-added courses and two certificate courses are offered by the college.

The library is well-stocked with an extensive collection of subject-related and general books. It is managed with the support of an Integrated Library Management System.
Expert resource persons organize coaching sessions to help students prepare for national and state-level exams such as K-CET, COMED-K, AIPMT, IIT-JEE and ICR. And Spoken English classes are held to improve the English speaking skills of students from rural areas.
The college has secured ten ranks and two gold medals at the undergraduate level and seven ranks and four gold medals at the PG level.
The college has given top priory to research activities. During the last five years, while 17 papers have been published at the national level, 66 papers have been published at the international level.
The Sanskrit Sandhya Kendra of the college is committed to propagate India's culture and revive the Sankrit language.
Both indoor and outdoor sports activities are being encouraged, keeping the all-round development of students in mind.
A multi-gym too has been made available for the students to stay fit. The college has won 18 university blues over the last four years and has been the champions of youth fest for four years.
NCC and NSS regularly conduct extension activities. Over the last five years, the college has successfully placed 200 students in various organizations.
