Department: Kannada : History

The department of Kannada saw its light of the day in June 1945. The credit of laying a firm foundation of Kannada department goes to Dr.H.T.Sasnur and Prof.B.T.Sasnur. Along with these eminent Professors, the bright tradition of the department was kept alive by Prof.S.G.Handi, Prof.A.S.Hipparagi, Prof.B.B.Nadagouda, Dr.D.B.Naik and Prof.(Smt) S.B.Pattanshetty during the period. At present, Dr.R.N.Dindur heads the department.

• The department offers B.A with Kannada as one of the 03 subjects of equal importance.
• Kannada as a core subjects has 09 combinations.
• It has 03 combinations with other MILs.
• The department also offers functional Kannada for B.C.A I-semester students.
• It also offers Folk Literature to B.A students.

Aim:

“To make the students responsible citizens of the country and make them employable”.

Objectives:

• To bring awareness among the students about the relevance of Kannada Literature in the present age of globalization.
• To develop Kannada language in all fields and make it the administrative language in the State as it has gained classical status.

Strategies:

• To organize lectures by eminent speakers.
• To motivate students to take up projects.
• To organize study tours.
• To develop creative writing skills among the students.
