History

The department of Sanskrit was established in the year 1945. We are proud to mention those names of eminent Professors like Shri Inamadar, Mrs. Ashthikar & Shri V.H.Barikeri who have laid firm foundation of Sanskrit Department. It was carried on by the noted scholars, Shri S.S. Hippargi and Shri B.S. Sarangamath. At present Smt. B.M. Sankannavar is Head of the Department.

• The Department offers B.A with Sanskrit as one of the 03 Subjects of equal importance.
• Sanskrit as a Core Subject  has 02 number of combinations with others optional subjects.
• Sanskrit  Basic has 03 combinations with other MIL’s.
• The department offers  spoken Sanskrit Class in the evening to the public in collaboration with Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthanam,New Delhi.

Aim:

“To make the students aware of our rich Indian Culture through Sanskrit Literature.”

Objectives:

• To inculcate values among the students through literature.
• To create good citizens of tomorrow.
• To enable the students to speak Sanskrit fluently.
• To motivate the students to pursue research in Sanskrit language.

Strategic Plans:

• To take up research projects and publish papers.
• To arrange guest lectures and seminars.
• To conduct Ten-day Workshops on Conversational Sanskrit.
• To assign projects to the students beyond the text.
